A Lily Now & Then

A few years ago, when my primary art form was photography, I created this image.

Title:  "Freckles"

Then a few weeks ago I had a idea for a Lily painting in different shades of yellow and orange with a touch of blue.  I used my original "Freckles" image as a reference for the new painting shown below.

See the similarities.

Although I still do the occasional photograph/photo manipulation, I'm really enjoying creating these loose, colorful and sometimes - whimsical paintings.  Both of these images are now available as prints at my online gallery at http://lee-owenby.artistwebsites.com/index.html

The original for "Freckles on Orange" has sold but it is still available as a print, pillow or tote bag - click here.

My Babies

It's not often that I get to see my babies (my artwork) after they are sold.  And most of the time I don't even know who bought them unless I personally handled the sale.  So I really get excited when I get to see them hanging out in their new homes.

This little group of "Happy Trees" was recently purchased by Carmen Watson of the Olive Pit Restaurant on Mineral Wells just down the road in Paris, Tennessee.  I went to visit them last week and they really do look happy in their new home.  I love that she arranged them in a group in the foyer and hope they get to spread their happiness for many years to come.

Knowing When To Stop

Is it finished yet?  No.   Knowing when to stop, knowing when I've done everything I can to get my idea across in a painting without going overboard - can be a real problem for me.  I know it needs a little more contrast ...

but after years of creating finely detailed ink drawings like "Sunflower Forest" shown below,

sometimes it's hard to put the brakes on and keep myself from filling in all the negative space.

Come back later to see what happens with this dreamy little dragonfly.
