About the Artist

"Cranes"

An early ink drawing

Lee Owenby grew up in Memphis, Tennessee where she started gaining notoriety as an artist in the early 70's.

She has been drawing since she was old enough to hold a crayon.  Her Mother, Neda Sinclair,  was quick to discover her talent and the need to keep Lee supplied with paper to keep her from drawing on the walls, and windows, or anything else that would stand still long enough for a quick sketch.

She was an art major at Overton High School, briefly attended Memphis State University, but decided the classroom was not for her.  She is a self-taught artist who believes you can learn anything you want with the right book and lots of practice.

Over the years she experimented in a variety of art forms including colored pencils, ink, watercolors, acrylics, stained glass and collages.

In the late 90's the advent of digital photography opened an exciting new avenue of art expression for Lee.  Just as a painter would use a brush and paints, she uses a mouse and a computer to manipulate photographs to create a form of "new age" art.

Photo Manipulation

Many of her recent works use a combination of collage techniques and digitally enhanced photography, watercolors and ink resulting in a very unique art form and style.

In 1991 Lee finally became a full time resident of her favorite vacation spot ~ Paris Landing on Kentucky Lake, just outside Paris, Tennessee.  Paris Landing State Park and Paris are among her favorite subjects.  There are approximately 200 of her images posted on this web site, including over 50 of the State Park.

Collectors might find her earlier works under the name Lee Peddy or Lee Hagewood.
